Ditch the keys: Here are 5 Reasons to take Metrolink to Visit Ventura

Guest Blog by Metrolink

Leave your keys at home and hop on the rails. Throw on your headphones, catch up on some work, and read a few chapters of that book that has been sitting on the table. You can easily do all that (and more) on a Metrolink train.

Ride Metrolink all the way from Oceanside to Ventura. With seven different lines running throughout Southern California and the Inland Empire, wherever you are, you can visit Ventura for a weekend beach getaway stress-free.

1. Metrolink’s Passes and Promotions Make it Affordable to Travel

Get ready because Metrolink has tons of promotions that make it affordable to hop on the train and choose sustainable transportation as you’re planning your vacation in Ventura. Metrolink’s $10 weekend day pass, “Kids Ride Free Weekend” promotion, and Student Adventure Pass make it affordable and easy to explore, year-round.

Metrolink’s Kids Ride Free on Weekends deal means every weekend, up to three children ages 17 and under can travel anywhere on the Metrolink system with a paying adult. Plus, adults ride for just $10 with the Weekend Day Pass on Saturday or Sunday, making it more affordable than ever to take a family rail trip.

The free Student Adventure Pass gives registered students with a valid ID the opportunity to ride for free across Metrolink’s entire system (available until June 30, 2024). It’s as easy as registering on the Metrolink App to determine your eligibility.

Start planning your summer vacation in Ventura! The $15 Summer Day Pass which extends from Memorial Day through Labor Day makes it affordable to travel ANY weekday during the summer. You can buy this pass for unlimited rides on the date you’re riding the train throughout all lines of service.

It’s a great excuse to take a weekday trip to the beach, hike or bike around a new destination, or make a visit to a new restaurant.

2. Explore Ventura Beyond the Rails

Bring your bike along with you for the ride! There are a ton of trails to explore on two wheels in Ventura using the train’s dedicated bike cars, like the Omer Rains Coastal Bike Trail, and the Ventura River Biking and Walking Trail. Looking for more bike and hiking trails in Ventura? There are plenty with views of the water and green rolling hills.

3. Double-decker cars provide plenty of space for snacking and games on the way to your final destination

The large windows of the double-decker cars showcase views of Southern California with multiple seating arrangements — including face-to-face seating and seats with tables if you’re traveling with your crew to Ventura. The best part? You don’t have to worry about traffic or parking while you ride Metrolink. Just sit back and relax and wait for the conductor to say “Next stop Ventura!”

4. It’s a more sustainable and relaxing way of traveling

Release your worries and watch the scenery sail by as you dive into a book, get some work done, or chat with a partner or friend – even better because there’s no need to worry about paying for gas or finding a parking spot!

Seamlessly travel to events like the X Games – sans wheels.

5. Save Money on Gas and Shop and Dine in Ventura

Once you get off at the Ventura stations, the world is your oyster. Restaurants like Caribbean Haven are near the Ventura–East station and local spots like Tony’s Pizzaria are near the Ventura-Downtown/Beach station (riders can only get off at the Ventura-Downtown/Beach station via the Codeshare agreement with Amtrak Pacific Surfliner). Walk along the Ventura Promenade and enjoy the ocean breeze or climb to new heights at the Ventura Botanical Gardens. The Top 30 Things to Do in Ventura is waiting for you and your crew!
