Valentine’s Day Weekend Itinerary in Ventura
Sure, Valentine’s Day is technically one day, but where’s the fun in that when you can make it a whole weekend affair?
And while it’s true that it’s really about the people you get to celebrate with, finding a place to experience the special moments is almost equally important.
Cue Ventura: easy breezy beachtown vibes; unique hole-in-the-wall eateries that don’t require months in advance reservations; a walkable downtown just blocks from the water; grand outdoor spaces to explore; and affordable boutique and hotel properties with million-dollar views.
Here’s your chance to create a memorable weekend for your loved one without breaking the bank.
Day 1: A Full Ventura Day
- Start with a sunrise walk along San Buenaventura State Beach. It set the tone of the weekend with fresh ocean air and a real connection to the spirit of this small beach town
- Head to Prospect Coffee for a cup of their matcha and walk to Cemetery Memorial Park for dog watching and morning vibes.
- Can’t get enough of the outdoors? Walk through the Ventura Botanical Gardens for gorgeous blooms and ocean views; or, hang out at the beach for a bit. The best part? Both of these spots are within walking distance of each other. Get from the hills to the water in 15 minutes flat.
- Wanna stay indoors? Book a workshop or class to learn something new. Maybe a clay or paint activity to bond over. Or make each other a personalized keychain or necklace at Brooklyn Charm.
- Time for lunch! The Ventura Avenue is lined with casual family-owned and operated taquerias where you can indulge in some of the best tacos you’ve ever had.
- Sign up for a tasting at Ventura Spirits. Totally local, Ventura Spirits is located just up the Ventura Avenue. Try their Wilder Gin or special releases.
- Is it time for dinner already? Paradise Pantry has to be on your radar for a romantic farm-to-table dinner spread. Save room for their butterscotch (you’ll thank us later).
- If you can, make it in time for sunset up at Grant Park/Serra Cross. It’s quite possibly *the* Ventura view you’ll never forget.
- Last but certainly not least, if you’re not ready to hit your hotel room bed yet, explore Ventura’s late-night scene. Jaguar Moon, VenTiki, Fluid State, the Livery, and so many more cocktail bars are great final stops.

Day 2: Day Trip to the Channel Islands National Park
- Get a to-go breakfast from Frontside Cafe. Their homemade granola is to die for, and it’ll fill you up for the big day ahead.
- Make your way to the Ventura Harbor Village early so you can soak in that gorgeous morning light that bounces off the water. You can watch the boats come in and out of the harbor as you make your way to the Island Packers office to board your boat for the islands!
- Sea cave kayak or hike at Santa Cruz Island. If you want to opt in on the adrenaline-pumping kayak tour with Santa Barbara Adventure Co., make sure you book that tour in advance! If you’d rather say on land, hike to Potato Harbor Cove and keep an eye out for those cute island foxes as you walk through the campgrounds.
- Back on the mainland, rest your bones and get a sit-down dinner at either Water’s Edge or Brophy Bros for the perfect end to your long, adventurous day.
Day 3: Final Morning in Ventura
- It’s your last day! Check out a newer spot in town, Buena Bodega. Order a coffee and a bagel and grab a specialty item while you’re at it.
- If you have some more time before departure, checking out Midtown is well worth it. PlantShop 805, Dexter’s Camera, Timbre Books, Poppies Vintage, and so many more shops can be found in this cute neighborhood.
