Five Fun Ways to Up Your Fitness Game in Ventura

by Visit Ventura featured image by Josiah Roe

Happily in Ventura, with miles of coastline, foothills filled with hiking trails, and a moderate climate year-round, it’s easy to get out and get moving. Another happy coincidence, plenty of incredibly innovative indoor fitness options in Ventura too. Because boring equals forget it.

Here are 5 unique and fun ways to revamp that fitness routine in 2020…

1. The Aerial Studio

Trapeze, trampoline, and juggling? Oh my!

Owned and operated by two former Cirque du Soleil performers, The Aerial Studio offers a little of everything for those seeking a bit more of an adventure. Aerial fitness is one of Ventura’s newest ways to burn some calories while having fun. aerial yoga ventura

 2. Fit Buddha

Looking for something fun and a quick calorie burn?

Fit Buddha  offers 40-minute, instructor-led small group classes on the Megaformer. You have to try it to understand it (which is the fun part), but basically the Megaformer workout combines the key elements of resistance and counter-resistance in a sequence that allows for periods of zero gravity at peak muscle contraction. You’ll feel it, and it will feel good.

3. Ride the Rincon Bike Trail

Take the scenic route to a better body.

There are lots of great places to bike in Ventura, both along the beach and in town. If you’re looking for a great in-town workout, try riding the hills at Grant Park (some of the world’s best cyclists tackled these very hills when the 2019 Amgen Tour of California passed through Ventura). Looking for a longer, more leisurely ride? Head north up the coast along the Rincon Bike Trail. Your chance to combine a workout with maybe a dolphin spotting along the way.

4. Sea Cave Kayaking

Gear up, get out on the water, and explore!

If you looking for a little more adventure kayaking the sea caves at the Channel Islands National Park is just the thing. Take a guided tour of the caves near Scorpion Anchorage on Santa Cruz Island for a once in a lifetime experience.

5. Stand-Up Paddle Boarding

Grab a paddle and explore Ventura Harbor.

Stand-Up Paddle boarding, or SUP, is a great way to get out, get active and cruise the coast or harbor areas. Ventura Boat Rentals offers SUP rentals to send you off and paddling through Ventura Harbor. Their adapted SUP boards, called YOLO Yaks, have foot traction pads and molded keels to help your balancing act, making it easy for beginners. There you have it, but it’s just a taste. Because Ventura is one of the world’s greatest playgrounds — and when you’re playing, it’s not really exercise at all.
