Health & Wellness Itinerary: How to Have the Perfect 3 Day Wellness Trip in Ventura

Searching for a destination to go on a 3-day wellness trip to improve your well-being and personal growth? Look no further than Ventura. Whether you’re looking for a digital detox, relaxation, or pampering, Ventura’s stunning landscape and mindful residents foster the perfect location to embark on your self-discovery journey. Here’s how to create a perfect 3-day wellness trip in Ventura.

Day 1: Get Settled in, Hit the Beach, and Get your Fitness On

Kicking off your weekend wellness trip to Ventura, day 1 will start off at the Ventura Harbor Village. The Ventura Harbor Village is a waterfront promenade full of waterfront attractions, fresh seafood, kayak rentals, and shopping. Whether you are in the mood to sit and ponder beside the community fire pit overlooking the docked boats or unleash your inner child at the arcade, there is an activity for everyone at the Ventura Harbor Village.

Not only is breakfast the most important meal of the day, but a healthy diet is key to fulfilling the physical dimension of wellness. Check out On The Alley, a breakfast spot here at the Ventura Harbor Village favored by locals. Accompany your hot tea from On The Alley with a yummy avocado toast.

Afterwards, walk over to Float Reiki for an unforgettable and intimate experience. Reiki is a complementary therapy relating to energy healing. Its benefits include emotional healing, pain management, and more. Don’t forget to call or text to book an appointment ahead of time.

But if you want to do something on your own instead, rent a kayak or swan-shaped pedal boat and paddle through the harbor at sunset through Ventura Boat Rentals. Tip: daytime rentals are first-come, first-served and nighttime rentals are by appointment only.

After a refreshing and calming reiki session, consider having a mini beach day. Just across from the bustling harbor is Harbor Cove Beach, a quiet beach with calm waters perfect for an afternoon on the shoreline. Feel the Earth’s sand under your feet, listen to the waves, focus on your breath, and take in the sights around you.

Following some fun in the sun, hit up Andria’s Seafood for some lunch. Andria’s Seafood offers the freshest yet nutritious seafood around, offering dishes with salmon, ahi tuna, swordfish, and more.

At this point, it’s finally time to check into your hotel. Four Points by Sheraton Ventura Harbor Resort and Holiday Inn Express & Suites Ventura Harbor are two great hotel options if you want to stay close to the harbor. You may use this time to either rest and recharge, or take a walk along the promenade.

The dinner options at the harbor are limitless. Head over to Water’s Edge for a meal with an ocean view. As another beloved seafood spot, Water’s Edge offers mahi mahi, king caesar salads, and clam chowder. If you’re looking for a restaurant with more non-seafood options, visit The Greek. The Greek is a Mediterranean restaurant that offers vegetarian moussaka, filet mignon, and traditional Greek salad.

To end the day, experience some sensory indulgence from wine tasting at Deep Sea Wine Tasting Room, because this actually fulfills the social dimension of wellness. Enjoying a taste of local flavors while laughing and creating connections with your crew and those around you, an important aspect of a well-balanced lifestyle.

Day 2: Digital Detox Camping at the Channel Islands National Park

The ultimate digital detox and opportunity to connect with nature is an overnight camping trip to the Channel Islands National Park. This underrated hidden gem, located 20 miles from the Ventura Harbor, is composed of 5 islands: Santa Cruz, San Miguel, Santa Rosa, Anacapa, and Santa Barbara Island. Santa Cruz Island is the most recommended for first-time visitors due to its proximity, amenities, and accessibility. There is no better place to have a sacred pause in the wild while forming a connection to all the elements than at the Channel Islands.

Since the Channel Islands are uninhabited, there are no vendors or stores on the islands. It’s important to bring all the camping gear you’ll need, like food, hiking shoes, extra layers of clothing, water, sunscreen, and swim gear. For more information regarding how to prepare and plan your trip to the Channel Islands, click here

All camping sites on every island provide NO phone reception (duh!), picnic tables, food storage lockers, toilets, primitive camping, and staff on-site. Potable water is available on all islands except for San Miguel and Santa Barbara campgrounds. Campers, however, are still advised to bring all their supplies and equipment as they are not available on the island. It costs $15 dollars per night, and it is highly recommended that you book your camping trip ahead of time as spots fill up quickly, found here

Now that we have all that out of the way, it’s time to dive right into how to make the most of your camping experience at the Channel Islands National Park. Before embarking on this jam-packed once in a lifetime adventure, start the day off with breakfast at Harbor Cove Cafe, which is located right by the harbor. The egg white veggie burrito and Hawaiian oatmeal are highly recommended.

It’s finally time to board the 1.15-hour-long ferry ride from Ventura Harbor to Scorpion Canyon, Santa Cruz Island. From the moment you step foot on deck, your experience begins. It is crucial to keep in mind that Island Packers serves as the official boat concessionaire and offers trips to Santa Cruz Island. Ferries operate throughout the day, with the first ferry to depart at 8:00am and the last ride back to the mainland at 4:30pm. Tip: It is important to book your trip fare ahead of time.

The activities on Santa Cruz Island are infinite. There are approximately 30 trails with stunning views of the island, ranging from easy to strenuous, flat to unmaintained, and mountainous. As you go on your nature walk, focus on your senses; what do you hear, smell, and see? You may also spot some wildlife including endemic species exclusive to the island such as the island fox, island scrub-jay, and bald eagles. Take the opportunity to do some nature sketching or photograph the beauty of the island.

Kayaking through Santa Cruz Island’s sea caves and kelp forests is a must for beginners. Fun Fact: The 7 sea caves that make up the island’s collection are one of the biggest sea caves in the United States! As you paddle through, look out for any marine animals such as dolphins, sea lions, and schools of fish. Tip: Book your kayaking tour ahead of time with the Channel Islands Adventure Company

Another popular activity to do on the island is to explore its unaltered beaches. Whether you want to take a dip in the water, get your tan on, take a walk by the shore, or do some reflection-time journaling, who can resist not spending some beach time?

Before you hit the hay, take advantage of the clear skies free of light pollution and do some stargazing meditation.

Additional recommendations: Have a sunset picnic, do some morning yoga on the beach before you depart, or some morning meditation on the seaside cliffs.

Chef Kelly often sources local ingredients to curate their weekly rotating menu. Whether you pick one of their artisan sandwiches off the menu or try the cult favorite Pantry Haze salad, it’ll be a memorable meal.

Right behind City Hall is the Ventura Botanical Gardens, the perfect destination to take a mindful nature walk surrounded by healing botanicals and experience stunning views of the town, the Channel Islands National Park, and brilliant blue ocean. The Botanical Gardens has over 120,000 chaparral biome plants found from the five Mediterranean climates: Chile, South Africa, Australia, the Mediterranean, and California. The walking path is a 2.4 mile out-and-back that takes roughly an hour to complete. Tip: Don’t forget to stay hydrated, bring water, and your best tennis shoes! Along the way, you’ll want to stop and enjoy the beauty around you.

The final meal in Ventura has come at last! Asiatique Eatery is located downtown, serving a combination of East Asian dishes made from the finest ingredients. Recommended items include the pineapple fried rice, vegan summer rolls, and pho. Another suggestion that is loved by locals is Rumfish y Vino. Rumfish y Vino is an upscale restaurant that offers Central-American-inspired dishes, seafood, and a bar. As the official Instagram states, “Come for the ambiance, stay for the food and drink”. Might as well kill two birds and one stone by attaining the physical and social dimensions!

As your stay in Ventura comes to an end, you’ll be leaving not only refreshed but recentered in the body, mind, and spirit. Whether it was soaking up the sun at the beach, reconnecting with nature, or taking advantage of the invitation to slow down, it gave you a special kind of energy to bring home.
