The perfect beach for little ones (and anyone who wants calmer ocean waters). The Ventura Harbor breakwater protects this beach from open ocean swells, providing calm waters — and, in summer, there are still lifeguards on duty. There are also restrooms and beach volleyball courts. There’s a fairly large (free) parking lot, too, though it fills up in summer, so best to get up and out fairly early. Added plus, the Channel Islands National Park Visitor Center is right across the street from the beach. If the kids (or their parents) need a break from the sun, the Visitor Center has a great 25-minute film about the five islands that comprise the Park, aptly named “A Treasure in the Sea.” The Visitor Center also has fun exhibits, including a tank full of cool sea creatures.
