Ultimate Mother’s Day Weekend Itinerary in Ventura
Make this Mother’s Day one to remember with a sun-soaked, adventure-filled weekend in Ventura. From charming local shops and scenic outdoor escapes, Ventura is the perfect place to show Mom just how special she is.
Whether you’re planning a surprise getaway or coordinating a family weekend trip, here’s your ultimate three-day itinerary to celebrate Mom with all the magic Ventura has to offer.
Day 1: Shop, Stroll, Savor & Soak in the Outdoors
Begin your Ventura vacation by exploring the unique and local shops, tasting the flavors of Ventura, and adventuring out into Ventura’s great green and open spaces!
Morning: Start with Brunch & a Stroll Downtown

Celebrating Mother’s Day has to start off with an incredible brunch. Lucky for you, there are plenty of amazing brunch options all across town. The hardest part will be choosing which spot to check out. Ease into the weekend with a delicious brunch at Cafe Nouveau—a local favorite known for its charming garden patio and classic breakfast favorites. Art’s Corner Cafe is another fan favorite (make sure you order their famous cinnamon rolls, trust us!).
Now that you’re fueled up for the day, take a walk through Downtown Ventura, where Mom can pop into boutique shops like Findings Market (for vintage treasures and local goods), Brooklyn Charm (make a completely personalized and custom charm necklace), or have some family-friendly arcade fun at Moby’s on Main.
Afternoon: Explore the Great Outdoors: Active Activities

You’ve made it to Ventura! Now it’s time to explore the epic playground in this town. Maybe Ventura’s beautiful sandy beaches are calling your name. Head to San Buenaventura State Beach or a little further north to Emma Wood State Beach.
For incredible ocean views, look no further than the Ventura Botanical Gardens. The epitome of spring in Ventura, get your walking shoes on and walk along the path lined with beautiful flowers and plants. The view gets better as you continue to climb up! The views of the coastline are breathtaking—perfect for a family photo with Mom front and center.
Evening: Sunset Dinner & Sweet Treats
Wrap up the day with dinner and a view. Walk over to Aloha Steakhouse, which is located right on the Ventura Promenade. With ocean views and the historic Ventura Pier right front and center, Mom will be transported into the California she’s always dreamed of thanks to you!

Day 2: Island Escape at Channel Islands National Park
On Day 2 in Ventura, take your mom on the ultimate adventure: a day trip to the Channel Islands National Park.
Your adventure begins the moment you hop aboard an Island Packers boat. As you set sail, get ready for an incredible display of wildlife. From harbor seals lounging on buoys and a feeding frenzy with hundreds of dolphins dancing along the bow of the boat to that occasional and magical sighting of a whale, you’ll be making memories before you even step foot on the island.
For a classic day trip, head to Santa Cruz Island, where your family can enjoy a good beginner’s hike along the Cavern Point Loop. It’s only about 2 miles round trip and offers sweeping views of the ocean and rugged cliffs.
But if your group is feeling adventurous, book a kayaking tour through Island Adventure Company to glide through incredible cavernous sea caves! Not for the faint of heart, a sea cave kayaking expedition is an experience Mom will remember forever.
Day 3: Harborfront Fun at Ventura Harbor Village
And for your final day in Ventura, spend it harborside at the Ventura Harbor Village. Known for its cute boutiques, waterfront activities, and great restaurants, the harbor is a special place to end your weekend in town.
Start the day with coffee and breakfast at Le Petit Café. A cute French-inspired cafe with delicious pastries, breakfast here will get you fueled up for the day ahead.
Midday: Shop and Cruise

Browse handcrafted jewelry, art, and nautical treasures at boutiques like the Mermaid Gallery and Ventura Pottery Gallery.
Once you’ve got all of your Ventura keepsakes, hit the water on a character pedal boat, electric boat, or, if you’re feeling adventurous, a kayak from Ventura Boat Rentals. There’s nothing like cruising through the harbor and enjoying the peaceful sounds of the waves. And you never know what you’ll see at the harbor — hello, adorable seals!
Afternoon: Lunch by the Water & Sweet Goodbyes
Enjoy lunch with a view at The Greek Mediterranean Steak & Seafood, where the food is just as vibrant as the scenery. Finish with the perfectly Instagrammable fish cones from Coastal Cone, and snap one last photo under the colorful harbor flags before heading home.
