Eithan Osborne and a Beautiful Ventura Surfing Mess

by Visit Ventura

Ventura has — and continues to — produce more than its share of astonishing surfers. No surprise, given the aquatic playground they call home. Big waves, small waves, beach breaks, point breaks, reef breaks; it’s like Disneyland discovered saltwater. Ventura has been home to world-ranked professional surfers and some of the best (if not the best) free surfers on the planet.

Though really, many would (rightly) argue that the best surfer is the one that’s having the most fun. Eithan (pronounced “Aton”) Osborne has always understood the fun. As a small grom, you could hear him as he paddled out on a good day, chattering madly to anyone who would listen — and sometimes just keeping up a happy monologue with himself. Now Eithan is grown (20), and all that energy, hard work (kudos to his Mom Karine who delivered him to the beach thousands of times), and talent has seen him develop into one of the best surfers in the world.

But not everything changes. Once asked about the best advice he ever received, Eithan chose wisely. Have fun. And now there’s a new film featuring Eithan and some of his best Ventura friends — including Dane Reynolds and Micky Clark — having, well, heaps of fun. The film is called, appropriately “Happy Talk.” Shot on quirky 16mm by filmmaker Andrew Schoener, Surfline calls it “ a beautiful mess … kinda different and raw and definitely worth a watch. Just like Ventura surf culture.” So have a look at a uniquely Ventura beautiful mess. And Eithan, Ventura is proud of you. For your surfing, yes. But also for your sense of what’s important.     Shopping, dining, hiking, beach-going, beer-quaffing, wine-tasting, and all manner of fun in the sun (because that’s what Ventura does best).
