Bright Spark Brewing

When a chemical engineer and a food magazine publisher/owner get together, magic happens. Bright Spark Brewing, owned by Tim Harbage and Linzy Mahoney, is located on the east side of Ventura, serving 12 different styles of craft beer made in-house–from modern IPAs to crisp lagers. One of the few breweries in town with a full-scale restaurant, try one of their crowd favorites: potato dukkah pizza, hot honey pepperoni pizza, fried chicken sandwich, or one of their fresh, hearty salads. BellRinger Brewing

BellRinger stepped into the shoes of a large legacy but has made a name for itself in the beer community and the local Ventura community at large. Owners Dan and Emily White envisioned a brewpub space, with a specialization in German lagers and West Coast India pale ales. Just steps from the ocean, Leashless Brewing is the only certified organic brewery in town with a dedicated mission to better the environment. Leashless sources all their ingredients from organic farms and then gives their brewery waste to local farmers to use in their fields or feed their livestock. Rooted deeply in the local Ventura community, you’ll find Leashless partnering with local organizations like the Surfrider Foundation, MERITO Foundation, and Ventura Land Trust. They remain committed to promoting local live music and have served as a launching pad for up-and-coming live music throughout Ventura County. MadeWest Brewing Co., founded by Ventura natives Seth Gibson and Mike Morrison, is home to a lot of local pride. Have a sip of their MadeWest Pale and you’ll soon realize why they won gold at the 2023 World Beer Cup in Nashville. But choose from any of their beer on tap (over 10) because they’re all winners. A true local dive, Poseidon Brewing Co. is known for its down-to-earth (or should we say down-to-ocean?) but high-quality beer and an equally free-flowing taproom that’s a perfect fit for those looking to hang out and have a fun time. Co-owners Brian (who is a former Navy-trained underwater construction diver) and Vinita set out to brew craft beer that follows their motto “ale with depth”. Try their best-selling Grapefruit IPA on tap or choose from over a dozen beers to go. With a massive taproom, you can bring your friends, family, and your dogs to spend the afternoon or evening laughing over a good pint. In a small but mighty tasting room (which was a former Patagonia warehouse), you can gaze to the west towards the ocean or to the east towards the looming Topa Topa mountains from which this local brewery gets its name. Opened in 2015, Topa Topa began as a local Ventura brewery but quickly expanded with 5 taprooms in the region, and is a well-known name in the beer scene both within the region and out. Due to demand, Topa Topa also expanded to a second tasting room and production facility on the Eastside of Ventura with retro video games ready to play and a massive beer garden outside to bring your family and dogs. With so many beers on tap, it’s hard to choose which one to pick but give their Chief Peak IPA and Dos Topa Lager a try.

Transmission Brewery’s philosophy to “shift perception” perfectly encapsulates their easy-drinking brews and casual, approachable taproom. Pick from over a dozen beers on tap and a handful of seltzers and you won’t be disappointed. Give their Transmission Light, a rice lager that won a World Beer Cup bronze, or their refreshing Blood Orange Mule a try. And don’t forget to head over to Topper’s Pizza (one of Ventura’s favorite pizza joints) which’s connected to Transmission for a great pizza-beer pairing.
