What’s New in Ventura, CA? New Events and Businesses You Have to Check out in September 2024
In Ventura, there seems to always be something new going on. Whether it is a new event coming to town or a new store, Ventura is the perfect place for adventurers looking for an unexpected and new path to follow. And to no one’s surprise, we love to keep you up to date on what’s new in Ventura. To start the fall season off right, we welcome six new businesses in town (and some happy re-openings). And we’ve added some events and new happenings to look forward to as well.

Rolling Pin Donut
Voted Ventura County’s best donut shop, Rolling Pin Donut has finally made its debut in Ventura! Located on the east side of town, get there early to try their famous tiger tails and cronuts. Always fresh and fluffy, find out what the hype is for yourself.
Little Lion
Possibly one of the cutest breakfast and brunch spots in Ventura, Little Lion is the newest breakfast restaurant in town. Wonderfully Instagrammable, Little Lion is your next girl’s brunch date. Complete with a delicious Taylor Swift-inspired cocktail menu, specialty toasts, a boutique-inspired wine list, awesome service, and chic interior, Little Lion is a great addition to Ventura’s eastside.
Simone’s and Two Trees Cafe
While not new to town, we welcome back Simone’s Coffee & Tea and Two Trees Restaurant after their closure in March from a building fire. Both businesses are rooted in the Ventura community and their opening invites celebration for both locals and visitors alike. Whether you’re ready to enjoy Two Trees’s iconic Micheladas or Simone’s amazing specialty seasonal drinks just in time for the fall, we celebrate these two iconic and longstanding businesses’s re-opening!
The Livery at Rumfish y Vino
Get ready for a sip and shop experience at the Livery Ventura! Located at local’s favorite Rumfish y Vino, order coffee, cocktails, wine, and more at the outdoor bar then head inside to shop from dozens of curated artisanal goods. Find mercantile items, fine goods, provisions, and more. Clothing, jewelry, home goods, decor, and pretty much everything under the sun, find a unique Ventura souvenir or gift that will remind you of your trip here in town.
Backdoor Bento
Blink and you might miss it! Backdoor Bento is truly a “if you know you know” spot in Ventura; and once you find out about it you won’t forget it. Serving convenient bento boxes, this new spot in town is located off of Oak St at the backdoor (next to Cocktail Trust and Strange Beast). Seek it out and you won’t regret it — from eggplant “unagi” and salmon flake to spicy tuna and chashu pork boxes, Backdoor Bento is the perfect place to grab to-go lunches and head right down to the beach. A taste of the iconic grab-and-go meals in Japan, Backdoor Bento brings a taste of Japanese to Ventura to the delight of foodies who visit.
Moby’s on Main
Please welcome to the neighborhood, Moby’s On Main! Ventura’s first ever family-friendly arcade bar (or barcade), Moby’s brings new energy to Main Street. With over 25 games, Thrifty Ice Cream, local brews on tap, and tons of fun Moby’s will be your next favorite stop while you’re in Downtown Ventura. Moby’s has a mix of old school arcade games (the pinball games are awesome) and newer games like Mario Kart, gamers of all ages and abilities will find something fun to do. As you walk along Main Street, stop by Moby’s for some action and fun!
Mr. Chubby Smash Burger
Get ready for your next favorite smash burger spot in Ventura! For those unfamiliar with the latest burger craze, smash burgers are burgers with thin patties smashed down on a hot surface, making it crispy on the outside yet juicy on the inside. For a place that does smash burgers right, head over to Mr. Chubby Smash Burger, located on Ventura’s westside on the Ventura Avenue. Juicy, tender, and mouthwatering — all characteristics that make a burger joint your next go to lunch spot.
Ventura Art and Street Painting Festival
September 14-15
Head to the Ventura Harbor for a weekend full of art and fun right by the water! The Ventura Art and Street Painting Festival returns this year — see beautiful and intricate street chalk paintings all across the harbor and interact with artists. Admission is FREE.
ArtWalk Ventura 2024
September 21-22
Get ready to celebrate local art at one of Ventura’s most anticipated community art events. More than 200 artists, dozens of venues, local performers, and filmmakers will participate in this year’s art walk and it’s all happening in Downtown Ventura and along the Ventura Avenue. Completely free, family-friendly, and fun, ArtWalk Ventura will feature live music and huge installations. See painters and potters work on their craft right in front of your eyes in live demonstrations. Get ready to shop, eat, and celebrate the community! New this year includes a film festival and poetry readings, colorful street painting in front of the San Buenaventura Mission (the public can join!), and a children’s area in Mission Park. Don’t miss out!
Seaside Oddities Expo
September 28-29
Lovers of the unique, strange, and unusual will love the Seaside Oddities Expo, coming back to Ventura this month at the Ventura County Fairgrounds. Get ready for a weekend of hair-raising excitement — there will be 100 vendors with arrays of wonders, antiques, and everything in between. Dive into the fall and spooky season at the Seaside Oddities Expo with six spooky photo ops, live performances, tattoo artists, and more.
