Ventura Land Acknowledgment

We acknowledge that Ventura is located on the unceded land of the Chumash Peoples who have been stewards of this land from time immemorial. Ventura honors and respects the Chumash Peoples —past, present, and emerging— with whom we share this land. Ventura is dedicated to sharing the importance of the Chumash Peoples land stewardship, history, contributions, and culture with all visitors in the spirit of collaboration, community, and respect. 

We thank the Chumash Peoples in our community past, current, and future, and support the resilience and strength that all Indigenous people have shown worldwide.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Chumash Elder Julie Tumamait Stenslie for her invaluable contributions to the creation of this video as well as her leadership and dedication to preserving the rich culture of the Chumash Peoples.

At the 2023 and 2024 X Games in Ventura, members of the Chumash community performed the competition’s first Chumash blessing to kick off the games.
