Five Fun Things to Do in Ventura This Weekend

By Visit Ventura

Why just five fun things in Ventura, a town that swims in fun? It’s called a teaser. And really, it’s more fun to keep coming back for more. And we’ll offer you more. Later. On a serious note, when you opt to do any — or all — of these things, you are kindly Supporting Local, and, from the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for continuing to help our Ventura businesses — our friends and neighbors — rise from this pandemic and see their way to the coming light. So here’s a taste of Ventura fun. Have at it. For life is short, and there can never be enough fun…

Surfrider’s Virtual “Hands Across the Sand” Film Night

Join the Surfrider Foundation virtually on Saturday, May 15 from 7 pm to 8:30 pm to watch the film “The 1969 Santa Barbara Oil Spill. Stories of the Spill,” documenting how a catastrophe gave birth to Earth Day and an important lesson in democracy. The film will be followed by a panel discussion. “Hands Across the Sand” is an internationally coordinated day of action to say ”Yes!” to clean energy and “No!” to offshore drilling, in an effort to protect coastal economies, oceans, marine wildlife and fisheries. Help Support Aspiring Local Musicians

On Saturday, May 15 (and every Saturday from here on out) the kind — and talented — Saint Pierre hosts “The Saturday Guitar Brunch Show.” Saint Pierre plays live and all the proceeds go to kid artists at MusicAndArtForYouth.org. So come down to Harvest Cafe — enjoy great food created from local, sustainable, and environmentally conscious farmers & natural food suppliers — and listen to the music from 11 am to 1 pm.

Enjoy a Concert Beside the Sea

Miss the wild joy of live music? Sweeping lights, thundering drums, strutting singers, screaming guitars? Well you don’t have to — and it doesn’t get more innovative, or outright fun, than Concerts in Your Car; basically drive in concerts right beside the sea at the Ventura County Fairgrounds. Coming up — okay not quite this weekend, but nothing wrong with an advance heads up — the Sound Mind Mental Health Music Festival (Fitz & the Tantrums, All Time Low and more) on Thursday, May 20 at 6 pm. And, not so far down the line, Bon Jovi (recorded; May 22), War (live; May 29), Nelly & Baby Bash (live; June 12), and no doubt more. CBF Productions, Car Concert host, specializes in surprise.

See a Movie Beside the Sea

Yep Concerts in Your Car does drive-in movies too; again, right beside the sea at the Ventura County Fairgrounds. Tonight (Thursday, May 13), pretty much nothing compares to “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” (7:30 pm). On Friday night (May 14), the somewhat tamer “Clueless” (7 pm).
