The Ventura Visitors & Convention Bureau (“VVCB” or “Bureau”) provides destination marketing and tourism program development and management services supporting the California beach community of 109,000 residents. The Bureau is primarily funded under a contractual agreement with the City of Ventura.  Additional information can be found on the Bureau’s website at www.visitventuraca.com.

Position Overview

The Communications Coordinator will serve as the day-to-day media and guest contact for the VVCB.  He/she must possess excellent writing skills and a thorough understanding of Ventura, the travel media landscape, and the tourism/hospitality industry and effectively translate that knowledge into solid communications and public relations efforts for the destination.

The Communications Coordinator oversees a strategic public relations program with targeted outreach to local, domestic and international media that consistently generates positive media coverage of Ventura as a travel destination.  Position is responsible for all proactive and reactive media relations. Position is also an important role in creating written content for the leisure and group markets.

Qualifications/Special Knowledge:  

Candidate will be energetic self-starter with good interpersonal and collaborative teamwork skills. Positive attitude and is self-directed, able to see and understand the big picture while remaining focused on completion of day-to-day details. Have ability to relate positively with coworkers, visitors, city staff, city council and tourism industry partners.  Proven experience with Customer Relation Management (CRM) and marketing automation platforms. Able to identify digital marketing trends and key opportunities for innovation. First-hand knowledge of online communications required. Excellent copywriting, editing and proofing skills.

  • College degree or four (4) years of industry-related experience preferred.
  • Write and create content for different audiences and platforms; blogs, social media posts, press releases, letters from CEO, updates to local and regional partners, press pitches, etc.  
  • Knowledge of Ventura area and its tourism assets is highly desirable.
  • Some long days, weekends and travel may be required; employees may be subject to recall in emergency situations.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus

Requires ability to:

  • Must Communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision.
  • Compile complex records, prepare reports and produce accurate work product.
  • Analyze situations/priorities carefully and adopt appropriate and effective courses of action; ability to solve problems.
  • Ability to accept criticism and work calmly and effectively in occasionally stressful situations or in emotional face-to-face discussions.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods, up to four hours at a time, make frequent repetitive hand movements associated with computer use, occasionally lift objects of 25 to 40 pounds.

PART TIME DIGITAL MARKETING ASSISTANT

Position Overview

 

The Digital Marketing Assistant is responsible for supporting and collaborating with the marketing and communication team on projects in the digital and social media space, as well as helping with visitor services in the visitor center. This part-time position will be focused on social media, creating real-time content, video production, photography and engagement on social media.

This position must have a complete understanding of the tone and messaging of Visit Ventura to convey in marketing efforts. As well, the digital marketing assistant must be professional when engaging with local hospitality partners and visitors and be a positive reflection of the brand.

This Digital Marketing Assistant will report to the Digital Marketing Manager and expected to work at least 20 hours per week. There is a need for this position to be flexible with the hours each week and it will require weekends and evenings. Two weeks to a month will be scheduled out at a time.

Essential Duties

  • Create real-time content Instagram on Visit Ventura’s accounts – @VisitVentura by visiting businesses and events in the city.

  • Build digital banner ads and print ads.

  • Create creative assists for, websites and blogs.

  • Provide real-time engagement with followers on social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter).

  • Assist with scheduling future social media posts, by searching for outside influencers and internal photography library.

  • Provide reports on marketing efforts each month.

  • Stay informed of digital marketing and travel trends.

  • Utilize internal content calendar and flickr library.

  • Help manage content on the website; updating information and adding events

 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Must be proficient in Final Cut Pro X

  • Must have advance knowledge of Adobe Suite programs (Photoshop, Illustrator and Lightroom)

  • Must be an avid user and advance knowledge with Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

  • Implement VVCB’s brand style guide and messaging in marketing efforts.

  • Must have a mobile phone that supports Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

  • Must be flexible and proactive with projects and schedule.

  • Ability to be able to visit different locations throughout the city.

  • Provide excellent customer service while assisting staff and volunteers in the Visitor Center with counter and phone coverage when required.

  • Knowledgeable about Ventura.

  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills and have excellent phone manner.

  • Ability to work effectively with all departments in order to meet their needs.

  • Will be working in WordPress, CRM (Simpleview), Mailchimp (ESP)
