How to take the ultimate California ‘Summer of Love’ road trip

Along the Pacific Coast …
Lacking a VW bus, we took a van down the coast. Clifftop stops overlooked Big Sur and Morro Bay, which hugs a huge dreamlike rock. In the classic California beach town of Ventura (visitventuraca.com), we watched surfers, climbed a mile up to Grant Park’s hilltop for far-out ocean views, and at the Bombay Bar & Grill, rocked with local indie bands that seemed like the Ramones on happy pills.
