Cory Soto Animus Blossoming (Reading)
May 27 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Formerly of local bands Birdfeeder and Doubt Aplomb, Cory Soto has recently penned and published his second book entitled, Animus Blossoming, out of which he will be reading on May 27th at native bookstore, Bank of Books.
An assemblage of literary vignettes and poetry, Animus Blossoming is a recalcitrant opus whose tenor and verve subdues orthodoxy with a natural singularity, that accords itself fluidly to its las conclusive literation. Although, it’s themes burgeon with darkness and stark poignancy, humor is so close a handmaiden to the melancholic, it is difficult to discern which is servile to the other; it seems to impel the sober somberness to dance when it wishes not to and twirls in spite of itself, with the tension of a begrudging smile lustrating its doleful face. Perhaps, it is this incisive and unabashed sardonicism towards the sacred and revered pathos of some kinds of life, that helps Animus Blossoming to achieve its poise upon the macabre, against which, Soto considers in unperturbed earnestness, jest and whimsy.
