We are grateful that the City of Ventura has not been directly impacted by floods, debris flow, or mudslides. Unfortunately, Montecito in Santa Barbara County was significantly impacted. Our hearts are with the victims in Santa Barbara County and their loved ones, and our thoughts are with those on the front lines working under extremely challenging circumstances.
NB US 101 at Highway 150 (exit possible to the City of Carpinteria)
SB US 101 at Milpas Road
NB/SB 33 north of Ojai at Fairview Road Full Closure (exit possible to the City of Ojai)
AVOID THE AREA
If possible, people are asked to avoid the area and give first responders space to work.
If you need to travel by car between Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties, Interstate 5 is the best alternative.
NORTH FROM VENTURA
Interstate 5 is accessible by transferring from Highway 101 to Highway 126 for approximately 45 miles.
SOUTH FROM SANTA BARBARA
Interstate 5 is accessible by transferring from Highway 101 to Highway 166 in Santa Maria (77 miles north of Santa Barbara) for approximately 100 miles.
SAN LUIS OBISPO AND PASO ROBLES
SLO and Paso Robles motorists heading to/from I5 should take Highway 46 instead of Highway 166, which has fewer lanes and is experiencing heavy traffic.
Caltrans does not have an estimated date for reopening US 101 at this time. The highway is expected to remain closed until at least Monday, January 22, 2018.
Pacific Surfliner has resumed service between Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties and added additional cars to accommodate increased demand.
Island Packers and the Condor Express are providing emergency ferry service between Ventura and Santa Barbara Harbors while US 101 is closed. Ferries are scheduled to depart from Ventura at 7:00am and 1:00pm, and depart from Santa Barbara at 9:00am and 4:30pm, weather and ocean conditions permitting. Cost is $32 per person and travel time is approximately 1h45m. Advance reservations are recommended and can be made by calling (805) 642-1393.
Due to displacements caused by the road closures, hotels in Ventura are nearing capacity. Reservations should be made as soon as possible by calling the hotels directly.
