Ventura students catch the spectacle of the Amgen Tour of California

It was the tour’s first foray into the city, and Ventura’s tourism bureau took full advantage of the visit, however brief. Using a drone bought especially for the event, the Ventura Visitors & Convention Bureau captured Cabrillo’s entire student body spelled out in an ambigram of “Ventura.”

(An ambigram, by the way, is a word that is the same even from different perspectives and angles).

The goal, bureau executive director Marlyss Auster said, was to “show the community coming together.”

Auster left no question as to whether the city achieved that. Minutes after the riders passed, just after the students had returned to class, she threw her arms out and shouted, “That was awesome.”
