Odd Birds dance concert

NAMBA Performing Arts Space presents “Odd Birds”, a theatrical dance work choreographed by Beth Megill, Moorpark College Professor and Artistic Director of Megill & Co, featuring a cast of five dancers in pursuit of normal. The afternoon dance concert will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2022 at 4 pm.

Feel good and uplifting, the program features the classic MeCo style blending modern dance, jazz dance, and theater into a fun-loving and high-spirited show. MeCo technique emphasizes rhythm and dynamic range to convey human stories that are sweet, touching, and appropriately absurd. Featuring original music from the winners of the 2021 Megill & Company Music for Dance Competition, get ready to get groovy with these birds!

“Coming out of COVID, I am witnessing a real disconnect between people. There is a lot of anxiety, fear, suspicion, and wariness of others. We are trying to come together in “normal” ways, but nothing is feeling quite normal yet. What was easy and natural now feels strained and hard, what was exciting now feels anxiety-ridden. Digital spaces dominate the fabric of our lives, and the real world feels—somehow unreal. But, rather than turn dark about it, my sense is to highlight it and make commentary about the absurdity of it all. It is odd. We are odd. So, let’s dance about it.” Artistic Director of Megill & Co, Beth Megill
