By Visit Ventura
Why just five fun things in Ventura, a town that swims in fun? It’s called a teaser. And really, it’s more fun to keep coming back for more. And we’ll offer you more.
On a serious note, when you opt to do any — or all — of these things, you are, in one way or another, kindly Supporting Ventura Local, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
So here’s a taste of Ventura fun for this weekend.
For life is short, and there can never be enough fun.
The Ventura Music Festival is on this Weekend
Live music returns in a big, and globally talented, way thanks to the Ventura Music Festival, which has a long history of bringing internationally recognized talent to Ventura and surroundings. On Friday, July 23 (8 pm), Aubrey Logan, one of today’s most brilliant contemporary jazz artists, plays the trombone and sings, deftly moving between jazz, funk, tender love songs, and traditionally inspired fusions. On Saturday, July 24 (8 pm), Time for Three – Charles Yang, Nicolas Kendall, and Ranaan Meyer – blend their instruments and voices in an exciting genre- hopscotching repertoire that blends Americana, modern pop, and classical music. On Sunday, July 25 (3 pm), the brilliant Andrea Roberto, one of the world’s best young guitarists, works his classical guitar magic. All three shows will be held at the Pacifica High School Performing Arts Center (600 East Gonzales Road, Oxnard). For tickets and information, please click here or call 805-648-3146 (the shows are “all-vaccinated” events with ticket-buyer documentation required).
Doing something good for others can be as much fun as doing something good for you. Here’s your (recurring) chance. This Saturday, July 24, Pier into the Future hosts a clean-up from 8:30 am to 10 am (Pier into the Future is hosting monthly Pier clean-up days on the 4th Saturday of every month at 8:30 am). Volunteers do light tasks such as graffiti removal, trash pick up, and cleaning the granite donor panels. Email firstname.lastname@example.org or all 805-804-7735 for more information or to sign up. Supplies are provided. Meet on the Pier near the gate. Great chance to give back to a place you love.
Tequila and Taco Music Festival
On Saturday, July 24 and Sunday, July 25, California’s largest traveling Tequila & Taco Music Festival returns to Ventura and the Ventura County Fairgrounds, courtesy of Surfer’s Point LIVE. Top shelf tequila sampling, gourmet street tacos, craft beer, award-winning margaritas, arts & crafts vendors, and live music all day, including headliners Vanilla Ice and Tag Team. Pretty hard to think of anything more summertime happy. Added happy, proceeds from the event will benefit Food Share and Ventura County’s food banks.
Live (often local) music is Also Back in a Big Way
Yes, there’s now a summer-long lineup of live music around town, including Sunday reggae at Cafe Fiore and pretty much every kind of music at Winchester’s Grill & Saloon. No more extensive listing of local music offerings than the amazing Ventura Rocks. And looking into Fall, the Majestic Ventura Theater has already scheduled a lineup that runs from Drakeo The Ruler to Pennywise.
Celebrate Aloha Friday and Uke Saturday
Jill Martini celebrates aloha and Fridays (both worthy causes), playing a special blend of fun mid-century cocktail tiki and Hawaiian traditional music with the Shrunken Heads. On the banks of Ventura Harbor at Harbor Cove Cafe this Friday, July 23, from 4 pm to 6 pm. On Saturday, Harbor Cove Cafe hosts a Ukulele Jam with Kool Hand Ukes beginning at 10 am. Come sit in the sun and enjoy the joy of music. The jam is marked from 10 am to noon, but the jammers have been known to go way past that.
