48 Hours in Ventura – Downtown & Channel Islands

Day 1: Downtown/Historical District

Day 2: Channel Islands Excursion

7:30am – Begin your day with an excursion to Beacon Coffee. This cafe roasts all their beans on site for some of the freshest coffee in town. Try an authentic New Zealand flat white to start the day off right.

8:30am – 5pm – Head over the Ventura Harbor Village to board an Island Packer’s Ferry for a day trip to the Channel Islands. There are many single day excursions available for every adventuring spirit, just be sure to book tickets ahead of time to save your seat. Pack in lunch and water, and pack out trash. A year-round Wildlife Viewing Cruise gives you the best chance of spotting marine animals, including dolphins and whales, while island tours will allow you to explore the islands themselves. Trips to the mountainous Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa Islands offer hiking trails for all levels, as well as plant and wildlife viewings, and historical Chumash sites. More adventurous hikers may wish to venture out to San Miguel Island for more challenging, untouched beauty.

5pm – Come back to civilization at Lure Fish House in Downtown Ventura for fresh, locally-sourced seafood.

7pm –  Walk Downtown for an after dinner glass of Californian wine at Barrel 33, a smokey tequila from across the border at El Rey, or try out a local craft beer at Ventura Coast Brewing Company.
